We are proud to feature Robert "Butch" Telgen, Shoo-Fly Distributor! We had to opportunity to learn more about Butch and his 'Short Stop Fly Control' business with a little Q & A.
Q) How long have you been a distributor for Shoo-Fly and how did you get started?
A) I started my journey as a distributor for Shoo-Fly in May of 2022. My dad and I were talking about a farm he had installed a system on, and when he was discussing it I thought it sounded like a fun business to get into. I remember he and my grandfather installing and servicing systems when I was a kid. So, when I brought up that I was interested in trying to be a distributor in southeast Georgia, he contacted Shoo-Fly to see if there was a need for it.
Q) What do you enjoy most about the Shoo-Fly products?
A) I enjoy the selection and variety of products that Shoo-Fly offers. The Concentrate 1 is a very effective product that I can stand behind fully when trying to sell it to a customer. I also enjoy the AgriSyn product that Shoo-Fly makes, because it is such a versatile product to have around, both as a disinfectant as well as a synergist for helping to control flying insects. The quality of the Shoo-Fly system itself by far outweighs the competitors in how it is designed and how it operates.
Q) What do you enjoy most about being a distributor?
A) What I have enjoyed most about being a distributor is driving around and seeing all the different farms in the southeast, along with meeting new people. It seems like every farm I drive up to is different. Before I started selling Shoo-Fly products I never noticed just how many horse farms there are in the area. In the few months I have been doing this, I have thoroughly enjoyed going to horse shows to start up a conversation with someone to find out their background — where they grew up, where they’re from, and how they got into horses.
Q) Can you share a little more about your business and the role Shoo-Fly plays in it?
A) Short Stop Fly Control got its name because my 3 boys all love baseball. This name fits, because as I am getting this business up and running, I plan to have them help me install and service systems so that maybe one day they can also become a distributor. Shoo-Fly is a great company to work for/with, as they are very customer and distributor oriented. They are great, because if someone has heard of Shoo-Fly and calls them, they will look up who the closest distributor is in that area and refer you to them.
Q) What else would you like people to know about you and/or your business
A) I am a 3rd generation overhead fly control distributor, as my dad and my grandfather started in this business 40 years ago. I have also been a Firefighter/EMT in Emanuel County, Georgia since 2011. I grew up on a dairy farm in Vermont and agriculture was a big part of my upbringing. I look forward to growing my fly control business so that my kids can also grow up in and around agriculture and enjoy it as much as I do.
Shoo-Fly is affordable, and saves us money. I would give them 5 out of 5 stars. Truly a well-organized, well-thought-out product that each and every horse owner could be well served by.
